This is a beautiful and thoughtfully produced book about one of the truly significant ceramic artists of the 20th century. Robert McGowan's elegant essay echoes the feelings of the artist himself, and was written in close collaboration with DeVore before his death.

This very handsome book, and the winner of a 2009 design award from the American Association of Museums, is a beautifully illustrated overview of the work of one of America's most important ceramic artists working within the vessel tradition. Richard De Vore (1933-2006) developed his signature direction in the early 1970s while on the faculty of the prestigious Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan and then refined it throughout his life, producing a notably original body of work distinguished by content both cerebral and sensuous.
